Welcome to those of you who decided to take us up on our ab and squat challenge for the month! If you’re wondering what the heck we’re talking about wander over to our March Monthly Update blog post and scroll to the bottom…it’ll catch you up. So we’re adding a new post about it (hopefully) each day this month. The idea is that we’re going to share our immediate thoughts and reactions (or whining and complaints) each day as we progress through March. Lydia is in italics, Annie is regular font. Just hoping we survive it!
Day 3 here we go!! Sooo after watching my squats in the mirror I learned a couple of things. One, I never, ever want to look at myself in a mirror while doing squats again (terrifying and kind of reminded me of giving birth) and two, I don’t squat low enough at all. I’m a naturally lazy person. My body will do exactly how much it thinks it needs to and zero more. All this time I’ve thought I’m squatting when really I’m just bending slightly (very slightly) at the knees. As soon as I adjusted, holy moly my butt lit up! I found my ass…it’s there!!! My crunches still felt pretty easy. I think this is because I do a lot of crunches already so I’m pretty used to them. Sit ups, however, took me by surprise. The last 5 or so were definitely more work than I was anticipating and I’m actually feeling it today. All in all, a successful (by my standards) third day.
Sits ✔️ crunches ✔️ squats…they’re a whole different beast. Focusing on good form takes what used to be a simple exercise to a whole new level.
Found this picture on Pinterest and it’s been a big help to make sure I’m doing the most effective squat…hopefully. This challenge has already made a difference in helping me become aware of my form. Plus, the booty was burning. And you know what they say, nobody ever sang a song about a small butt.
